The Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l’Environnement (LSCE - www.lsce.ipsl.fr) seeks to hire an IT engineer in the context of the H2020 European VERIFY project, which concerns monitoring and verification of greenhouse gases (GHG).
Measuring the effectiveness of GHG emission reduction policies against agreed-upon international targets require accurate, transparent, traceable and precise estimates of emissions and their trends. In this context, the VERIFY project proposes to quantify more accurately carbon stocks and the fluxes of carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O) across the EU based on independent observations.
The LSCE is coordinating this 4-year integrated project involving 38 partners across Europe.


We seek a Computer Scientist to set up a database and develop data visualization tools to manage and explore estimates of geenhouse gas fluxes, produced by the VERIFY project (gridded model output, in situ and satellite observations, regional budgets, etc). The main challenge will be to construct a flexible and reliable database as well as associated web applications offering interactive visualizations such as maps and times series (see for instance www.globalcarbonatlas.org) with state-of-the-art web technologies (RESTful web services, interactive javascript plotting libraries, etc).
The candidate will work at the Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l’Environnement (LSCE) in the southwest suburbs of Paris. Ideally the candidate should be familiar with the following tools: Linux, Python and JavaScript, SGBD such as MongoDB systems, HTTP server management, BokehJS library, Flask framework and should have experience working in a team environment.

 

The position will remain open until filled with review of applications and interviews. Salary follows the CEA directives and is adjusted for work experience.

The contract will be for 18 months and is renewable.
