EASME (Executive Agency for SMEs) is organizing a workshop to ensure a continuation of climate science dialogue at the European level.
This Climate Science2Policy workshop (CS2P workshop) is a collaborative approach between the European Commission and the Earth System Science Horizon 2020 projects (APPLICATE, BLUE-ACTION, CRESCENDO, CONSTRAIN, COMFORT, EUCP, FORCeS, NUNATARYUK, PRIMAVERA, PROTECT, SO-CHIC, VERIFY, TiPACCs, TiPES and 4C).
The workshop will take place from 17 to 18 November 2020:
- Day 1 theme: Climate sensitivity and emerging findings on the physical science of climate change relevant for climate policies.
- Day 2 theme: Cross-cutting topics on Horizon 2020 project implementation (Policy session, Communication & dissemination practices, Computing needs).
VERIFY and CONSTRAIN will co-chair the Session 3a on Day 1 about Carbon budgets including climate factors in the Covid-19 pandemics.
Here are the different taks:
- CO2 emissions and earth system response in the Covid-19 pandemics (Pierre Friedlingstein, 4C, University of Exeter)
- Global carbon budget, tailoring to next global stocktake and importance of net zero dates (Kasia Tokarska, CONSTRAIN, ETHZ)
- Towards a regular synthesis of carbon budgets at national scale (Han Dolman, VERIFY, VU Amsterdam)
- Presentation of policy and research recommendations (Philippe Peylin, VERIFY) and discussion with panellist (Philippe Peylin, Kasia Tokarska, Pierre Friedlingstein, Han Dolman)
