This deliverable briefly describes the GEO Carbon and Greenhouse Gases initiative (GEO-C) showing its current state and emphasizing its relevance to the Paris Agreement and VERIFY.

There are still many open challenges that need to be addressed to effectively support the achievement of the Paris Agreement. While there is consensus that more coordination and integration are needed among global initiative and projects dealing with climate observations, it remains rather unclear what role GEO-C could play usefully. The VERIFY consortium could be one of the main contributors and beneficiaries, at the same time, of GEO-C. This potential need to be still fully explored and exploited.
